Espace Ouvert is a film that focuses on the composer/violinist Malcolm Goldstein, a musician that experiences the world, his daily living as sound. The film is a flowing of fragments, portraits of him in everyday activities as well as rehearsals and performances of his compositions/improvisations, in which the rich dimensions of sound, alive and integral within the presence of his world, finds expressions as shared with people through his music.

About Malcolm Goldstein:

Malcolm Goldstein, as composer/violinist, has been active in the presentation of new music and dance since the early 1960's in New York City , as co-founder of the Tone Roads Ensemble and as participant in the Judson Dance Theater, the New York Festival of the Avant Garde and the Experimental Intermedia Foundation. His "soundings" improvisations have received international acclaim for extending the range of tonal/sound-texture possibilities of the violin and revealing new dimensions of expressivity. His work has been presented internationally, and released on record labels such as Experimental Intermedia (XI), da capo, Wergo, Nonsequitur/ ¿What Next?, 0.0.Discs, Eremite, Folkways, In situ, and others. He has written extensively on improvisation and is the author of the book “Sounding the Full Circle ”.

Goldstein will be present at the screening to participate in a Q+A as well as play a short set following the film!

Compositeur et violoniste présent dans le monde de la musique et de la dance depuis le début des années 60 à New York, en tant que co-fondateur du Tone Roads Ensemble et impliqué dans le Judson Dance Theater et  le New York Festival of the Avant-garde and the Experimental Intermedia Foundation. Ses expérimentations et improvisations ont une renommée internationale pour avoir élargi la gamme de tons, textures et possibilités du violon, révélant une nouvelle dimension d’expressivité. Son travail, présenté à travers le monde et publié chez des maisons de disques telles qu’Experimental Intermedia (XI), da capo, Wergo, Nonsequitur/¿What Next?, 0.0.Discs, Eremite, Folkways, In situ et autres. Il a écrit largement au sujet de l’improvisation musical et est l’auteur du livre « Sounding the Full Circle ».

Goldstein sera présent à la représentation, afin de participer à un session Question/Réponse et de jouer un court set après le film.
